Hmmm. I really like fibre 1 products, whether they’re granola bars or cereals. This cereal has honey clusters, adding that sweetness and crunch factor. For 1 cup (54g), there’s 13 grams of fibre. That’s 52% of your daily value of fibre, and we all know that fibre is an essential part of our diet. It’s also loaded with vitamins and minerals, especially iron.
Although dry cereals are filled with preservatives, corn starch and corn syrup etc, I can’t say I recommend it. It’s comprised of alien ingredients that are junk for our bodies. It’s processed. However, fibre 1 cereals are a healthier option than most cereals and is apparently one of the best breakfast cereals.
Taste wise, I think it’s great. I like the crunchiness from the oat clusters, and it has the right amount of sweetness.

Cheerios. Common household cereal.
I think most people associate healthy cereals with Cheerios (not the honey-coated ones). It’s said to lower cholesterol because it’s made with oat fibre. Presumably, anything made with whole grains, less fat, and less sugar may potentially lower cholesterol. After taking a look at its nutritional value, these Cheerios are made out of 8% sugar for every serving (1 cup), which isn’t too bad considering there are way more sugary cereals out there.
Cheerios are plain but they soak nicely into the milk (I use skim milk). They don’t get mushy-soggy like corn flakes and has a subtle creaminess I find yummy.
The cereals I’ve reviewed thus far include Simply Food’s Corn Flakes, Cheerios, and Kellogg’s Special K Low Fat Granola. People typically look at the calories, fats, carbohydrates, sodium, and sugar content when comparing foods. Ultimately, it depends on the individual’s diet, and by diet I don’t mean losing weight, I mean a healthy way of eating. Pin-point what you need more or less of because no one knows more about your bodily insides than yourself! Unless your doctors do 😉

There are probably healthier cereals out there than the ones I am posting, but these bulk cereals are generally more affordable and aren’t loaded with sugars. Organic and natural products are a bit on the expensive side. Nonetheless, I’ll try my best to see what’s amazing and worth that extra penny.

Low-fat Granola. New but not improved.
Granola is very calorie dense but it’s lightweight and great for outdoorsy people. It contains rolled oats, honey, nuts, and dried fruits, so it’s super tasty and healthy. Use it as a topping, in desserts, or as a cereal!
When I saw this new low fat granola on the shelves, I was ecstatic! Not because it was on sale (two for $8.00), but the fact that it was Special K. I’ve been satisfied with most Special K products, so I did not hesitate to give it a try.
Sadly, this low fat Granola did not cut it for me. It was dry and rather tasteless. Although it was slightly sweetened, my taste buds were a bit confused. I wasn’t sure what I was eating, which is strange since granola is distinctly delicious. I guess granola is one of those foods whose fat and sugar content should not be tampered with.
Generally, this option would be a healthier alternative than most leading granola since it’s made with 50% less fat. According to the nutrition facts, Special K’s low fat granola contains a lot of vitamins and nutrients. It’s still a bit high in calories carrying 210 calories for every ½ cup (54g).
I would prefer the leading granola. If you ever try it, let me know! Maybe it was just me (:
Corn Flakes. It’s actually quite tasty.
I am a huge fan of cereal, but it’s not the healthiest food out there. Look at the ingredients list and you see a bunch of strange additives. Since the cereal must retain it’s freshness, a lot of preservatives and processed ingredients are used. Unfortunately, I can’t get enough of it, so I am on a quest to seek the tastiest and healthiest of cereals.
